Written by Elaine McGoogan, a Transformational Alchemist, energy healer, and founder of The Oneness of You. Through energy work, consciousness development, and essence-to-essence transformation, she helps individuals release limiting patterns, reconnect with their innate wholeness, and live with greater freedom, purpose, and authenticity.
There’s a moment many women know, even if they’ve never spoken it aloud.
You’re standing in the middle of a life you built carefully, piece by piece: the career, the relationship, the home, the role you play so well for everyone around you.
And somewhere underneath it all, there’s a quiet ache.
Not despair, exactly.
Not even unhappiness.
Just a whisper that says:
Is this all there is?
If you’ve felt that whisper, I want you to know something important: you are not broken, and you are not ungrateful.
You are awakening.
When the Universe Stopped Whispering and Started Shouting
In my own journey to awakening, I heard that whisper, Is this all there is?
At the same time, I had a knowing that something was changing, something new was waiting for me, and I had no clue what that would look like.
After several strong nudges from the universe, I left my very well-paid job in Brussels and moved to Paris.
A new city, a new life, or so I thought!
After a few weeks, I realized I had simply moved my way of living to a new location.
With that clear realization, something opened, and a huge expansion occurred within my energy field.
Life was never the same after that, and I’ve spent the last 40-plus years coming home to myself and understanding what that moment of realization actually meant for me, and for all of us.
What Awakening Actually Is
We tend to imagine awakening as something dramatic: a lightning-bolt moment, a mystical experience reserved for monks on mountaintops or people who’ve been through something extraordinary.
But in my years of working with women as an energy healer, I’ve come to see it differently.
My own awakening arrived with some thunder and bliss, but for most of us, awakening arrives as a whisper that grows louder.
A persistent feeling of misalignment.
A sense that the life you’re living, however successful it looks from the outside, isn’t quite you anymore.
It isn’t about becoming someone new.
It’s about remembering who you were all along, beneath the layers of conditioning, expectation, and roles you’ve spent a lifetime perfecting.
The Doorways In
Awakening rarely knocks politely.
It tends to arrive through the back door: through burnout, illness, the end of a relationship, the children leaving home, a loss, or sometimes simply a quiet Tuesday afternoon when, out of nowhere, everything feels suddenly, unbearably hollow.
And sometimes there is no obvious trigger at all, just a quiet, growing sense of readiness.
If you can’t point to a dramatic reason for what you’re feeling, that’s perfectly fine.
The soul doesn’t require a crisis to begin calling you home.
These moments are not random.
I’ve come to see them as invitations.
Something in you, something wiser than your everyday mind, is asking for your attention.
It’s asking you to stop, to look, and to come home.
If one of these doorways is familiar to you right now, you’re not alone, and you’re exactly where you need to be.
Why the Disorientation Is a Good Sign
Here is the part nobody warns you about: awakening can feel deeply unsettling before it feels like freedom.
The ground you stood on may no longer feel solid.
Things that used to matter may suddenly feel hollow.
People and situations that once fit may start to feel out of alignment.
This isn’t a breakdown.
It’s a breakthrough trying to happen.
In my work, I often describe this process as peeling an onion.
Each layer that comes away can feel tender, even painful, but each one brings you closer to your essence, to the truest version of who you are.
The discomfort isn’t a sign that something has gone wrong.
It’s a sign that something true is finally being allowed to surface.
The Body Often Knows First
Long before the mind catches up, the body tends to speak.
A new exhaustion that rest doesn’t fix.
A heightened sensitivity to noise, people, or environments that never used to bother you.
An unexplained hunger for stillness, silence, nature, or solitude.
These aren’t malfunctions.
They’re signals.
Your body is part of your energy field, and it often carries the wisdom of what’s happening at a soul level long before your conscious mind has language for it.
In my work, I can often see and sense these shifts in a woman’s energy field before she has fully registered them herself.
Learning to listen to your body, rather than override it, is one of the most powerful things you can do on this journey.
Coming Home to Yourself
If awakening has a destination, it isn’t somewhere out there.
It’s not a better job, a different relationship, or some perfected future version of your life, though those things may well change as a result of this journey.
The destination is you.
Your essence.
The whole, unconditioned self that exists beneath everything you’ve taken on, achieved, and performed in order to belong, succeed, or feel safe.
There is a particular kind of relief that comes when you stop chasing yourself and simply turn around to meet yourself instead.
A sense of bigness.
More access to intuition.
More flow.
More aliveness.
A felt sense of oneness with yourself, with others, and with life itself that doesn’t depend on circumstances being perfect.
An Invitation, Not a To-Do List
I won’t offer you five steps to awaken faster because that isn’t how this works.
Awakening can’t be rushed, forced, or checked off a list.
It unfolds in its own time, in its own way, often more gently than we fear.
What I will offer you is a single question to sit with, if you’re willing:
What if the life you’re being called toward is more expansive, more joyful, and more truly you than anything you’ve known so far?
You don’t need an answer today.
Just let the question live in you for a while.
That’s often exactly where awakening begins.
If this resonates and you feel ready to explore your own awakening journey more deeply, I’d love to connect.
