From the spiritual perspective I have come to embrace, we are energetic beings living in an energetic world. We are already connected to something larger than ourselves, and we are constantly creating and responding within it.
When you try to control outcomes or become attached to how things should look, you can miss the magic of what’s already trying to reach you.
I love being in the flow of life, synced with the universe and riding the waves of the energy that surrounds my daily life. It’s something I think about often, especially when I reflect on my journey.
There was a time when I was in the thick of it, working hard, trying relentlessly, and constantly on the go. In so many ways, I was “in control,” which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a bad thing.
But then, at some point, I made a conscious decision to trust more. To trust myself, trust the universe, and trust the universal force that I experience as not just around me, but within me and for me.
Once I made that shift, everything started to change.
Now, I find myself in the flow as much as I possibly can be, and I know this awareness keeps expanding. The beautiful thing about being in the flow is that it has no endpoint. It’s a journey that evolves and grows as you do.
So, what does “being in the flow” really mean?
To me, it means surrendering and trusting beyond what the mind can see. It’s an experience, a feeling, often an unknowing sensation. It’s that internal voice, your soul’s compass, that seems to know where to take you and how to get there.
Once you drop into that flow, it can feel as though an entire field of possibility opens up around you, ready to surprise you in the best ways.
Just the other day, I visited my favorite restaurant and met an incredible couple from California. I greeted them with, “How are you both doing tonight?”
To my surprise, the first words out of the guy’s mouth were, “We are in the flow.”
I couldn’t help but laugh and reply, “Yes, you are. How amazing!”
I had just finished recording a podcast about that very topic only an hour earlier.
What perfect synchronicity!
This sparked an engaging hour-long conversation about how we all experience being in the flow and the practices that help us get there: faith, surrendering to the magic, trust, and knowing.
The guy shared how he had asked the universe for a new job, but he hadn’t specified where. He simply voiced his desire for something fulfilling. He reflected on past jobs where he cherished the atmosphere, the people, and the connections, longing to feel that way again.
Then, unexpectedly, within days, he received an email from someone in Florida interested in his resume.
From there, the adventure began.
He said yes to exploring this opportunity, sensing that the universe was guiding him toward this new position, even though it meant moving to an entirely different state.
Embracing the opportunity without fear, he now finds himself juggling life between California and Florida, seriously contemplating making Florida his new home.
His enthusiasm was contagious, resonating with the same sense of possibility that I felt.
Alongside his wife, they were exploring the area, loving the beaches and the small-town vibe. They could feel and see themselves living here.
In that moment, the three of us came together at the bar, engaging in deep conversation about our shared spiritual understanding of creation and the ways we participate in shaping our own realities.
We connected over the belief that when you trust beyond yourself, amazing things can happen.
Our beliefs aligned, and we discussed our shared sense that the universe can guide and support us when we remain open, ask for what we want, and pay attention to what unfolds.
They were fully aware that a new door was opening for them, and they trusted and felt the excitement of their next steps.
We all expressed gratitude for crossing paths and looked forward to getting together once they relocated here.
How to Start Being in the Flow
If you’re wondering how to tap into the flow yourself, here are a few practical suggestions.
First, You Must Believe. In my experience, what you believe is possible and what you feel worthy of receiving can shape how open you are to opportunities when they appear. Cultivating a mindset of belief is essential.
Practice Mindfulness. This is all about connecting inward. Spend a few minutes each day simply being present. Focus on your breath, the sensations in your body, or the sounds around you. This practice helps quiet the noise of the mind and allows you to tune into your inner voice, the one that naturally guides you when you let it.
Set Intentions. Rather than outlining rigid goals, try setting intentions for how you want to feel or what you wish to experience. For example, you might say, “I intend to embrace new opportunities.” This subtle shift opens you up to possibilities you may not have anticipated and creates space to notice synchronicities when they occur.
Embrace Change. Let go of the need for control. When you feel that push to change or explore something new, lean into it. Change can sometimes feel like an invitation into a new flow. Trust in that process.
Be Open to Signs. Ask bigger questions and remain open to whatever comes in. I experience the universe as communicating in many different ways, through feelings, synchronicities, signs, and serendipitous encounters.
Pay attention to what captures your attention. Whether it’s the advice of a stranger or a simple moment that stays with you, these experiences can become part of the way you navigate what comes next.
Your soul desires to evolve and experience new things, so allow that flow.
The magic may lie on the other side of change.
The Importance of Connecting Inward
The most crucial part of being in the flow is connecting inward.
In our fast-paced lives, we often focus so much on the external, jobs, relationships, milestones, that we forget to check in with our own hearts and souls.
When you create that connection, everything else can begin to fall into place more naturally.
So, the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed or stuck, remember that the flow is always within your reach.
Trust yourself.
Trust the universe.
Stay open to the magnificence that may lie ahead.
You, too, can navigate the rhythms of life with a greater sense of ease and excitement, just as I’ve learned to do.
Being in the flow isn’t just a nice concept.
For me, it’s a way of life and a journey worth embracing.
So, dive in and let the universe surprise you today!
