Sandi James is a registered Psychologist, researcher and PhD student with more than 15 years of experience across mental health, eating disorder and addiction treatment. A lived-experience clinician, her work is particularly focused on supporting people who have felt underserved, misunderstood or harmed by conventional systems of care. Sandi works with individuals and families experiencing trauma, eating disorders, substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges, drawing on more than 12 years of experience with contextual behavioral approaches. Her practice is inclusive, trauma-informed and grounded in harm reduction, values-based care and improving quality of life rather than imposing a single definition of recovery. Alongside her clinical work, Sandi is completing qualitative PhD research exploring people’s experiences of eating disorder treatment, including how harm can be identified, understood and addressed within treatment systems. She is known for her commitment to advocacy, thoughtful clinical practice and creating more responsive approaches for individuals and communities whose needs are too often overlooked.
