If you’ve been looking for a way to get more energy into your life, then this is for you. If you’re like me, then you hate the winter months, when it’s cold, dark and generally you feel like you have less energy, and feeling energized early in the morning definitely does not come easy. So how do you get more energy in the mornings, especially if you’re struggling to fit in a decent workout?
Lately, after putting my 4.30am morning start on hold over the holidays ( Yes, I know, what holidays? The holidays are long over!) , I’ve found that my morning energy level’s have been flagging, that is until I started my new morning routine.
Here’s how you can get more energy in just 10 seconds a day.
There are lots of reported benefits of cold showers including improved circulation and even weight-loss. What’s more, cold showers, also known as Scottish showers may reduce stress, improve your immune system as well as having anti-depressive effects.
A 2014 study found that participants who had a daily (hot-to-) cold shower over a 30 day period, had 29% less self-reported sick leave from work. What’s more, the study found that combining a (hot-to-) cold shower regimen with regular physical activity resulted in an expected 54% reduction of sickness absence and the most commonly reported beneficial effect was an increase in perceived energy levels with many participants comparing the effects to that of caffeine!
With such glowing reviews, I had to try having a morning cold shower out for myself.
Over the past week, I’ve followed my usual shower with a 10 -20-second cold shower.
With just a week left in the moth when I started, I decided to treat this as a short trial period, to see if it would be worth completing a whole 30-day cold shower challenge.
The results are in:
Since starting the trial
I have definitely felt more energized in the morning and throughout the day
I’ve loved having the rush/buzz that’s come from having a cold shower
I’ve felt warmer in the mornings after the cold shower than I did after a hot shower even though the temperatures have been falling
I’m convinced my skin’s been improving
All this after just 7 days and I’m embarrassed to say it, but my activity levels and workout routine have yet to kick in!
The Conclusion?
I’ll definitely be taking on the challenge of a cold shower every morning over the month of February, hopefully, I can expect to see, more energy, great skin and no sickness in sight!
One final thought… If you can find the discipline and commitment to pour freezing cold water on yourself every day, perhaps you’ll have more discipline and commitment to follow through on the actions you need to take to achieve your goals, even the seriously uncomfortable ones!
Over to you
Why not join me this month and see what a morning cold shower could do for your energy levels and more! And since it’s February, you only have to manage 27 days left!
