Behind the Work
The ideas, experiences, and lessons that shape the people behind the work.
In conversation with Laurie Parente, Spiritual Healer, Intuitive Guide, and Transformational Coach
A conversation on intuition, authenticity, spiritual connection, and what becomes possible when we stop living at a distance from our own truth.
There is a particular kind of strain that comes from knowing something inwardly while living as though it is not true.
For Laurie Parente, that strain accumulated over years. She was aware of her intuitive knowing, yet experiences from childhood and early adulthood had made it difficult to trust her own voice or share that part of herself openly. By her early forties, the pain of living inauthentically had become harder to ignore than the uncertainty of changing.
Her work now centers on helping others live “from the inside out.” As a spiritual healer, intuitive guide, and transformational coach, she supports people in listening beneath fear, conditioning, and inherited stories so they can reconnect with what she describes as their soul essence.
This is not a rejection of structure or responsibility. Laurie’s own alignment depends on both intuition and discipline: meditation, journaling, breathwork, movement, boundaries, and discernment about where her energy belongs. Openness without boundaries can become depletion; intuition without enough stillness can be lost beneath noise.
In this interview, Laurie reflects on self-trust, spiritual connection, and why healing may be less about becoming someone new than allowing the self that learned to survive to soften.
What belief, philosophy, or truth sits at the heart of the work you do?
I believe we are all capable of tuning into our intuition, tuning into our loved ones in Spirit for messages and support, and tuning into our Angels, Guides, and Teachers in Spirit as well.
How would you describe the work you do today and the deeper transformation it supports?
I help people live from the inside out – to become aware of the light within them and tune into that soul essence for decisions, clarity, support, and wisdom. Truly living from the inside out means living with great courage. It involves allowing our hearts to be open and vulnerable, yet strong and resilient, all at once. When we unwind our beliefs, conditioning, fears and stories, we find our true selves and awaken to living in harmony, balance and alignment with all that is and with our true purpose.

Has your definition of success changed over time? If so, how?
As a child and young adult, I was taught that success was something measurable. It was about grades, competitions, being better than, and financial achievement. I now measure success in joy, connection, collaboration, balance, boundaries, resilience, and love.
What have your experiences taught you about staying true to yourself amid pressure, expectation, or success?
As an Intuitive Guide and Medium, there was once a need for me to justify what I do and, by association, who I am. Where there was once an internal pressure to prove to people what I do, there is now a quiet ease. I know now that I have complete faith and trust in who I am and how I share my healing gifts. The pressure that forged the diamond within me – the self-doubt, the limiting beliefs, and the times of lack of self-trust – all led me to where I am today.

What does living in alignment mean to you personally?
Living an aligned life means checking in with my heart and my team in spirit before every decision. It means filling my life with things that bring me joy and making time for spontaneity. To share my energetic gifts, I also need discipline and a routine that includes meditation, journaling, breathwork, and daily movement. Finding time for stillness and presence throughout each day, as well as before sleep, also helps me stay aligned with my light and purpose.
What have been some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned about yourself through leadership, business, or personal growth?
The biggest lessons have been around boundaries and discernment. It took time for me to discern my responsibilities and what I needed to give to others in supportive roles in my business. Boundaries around my time, my energy, and how much access my clients have to me also took time to learn.
What conversations do you believe people most need to be having right now, and why?
I believe one of the most important conversations people need to be having right now is with themselves. It’s about taking accountability and responsibility for their own actions, thoughts, and patterns. So often, we get caught in the blaming game or a victim mindset, where we believe things are happening to us instead of for us.
When someone comes into our life, they are often there to teach us something. But instead of reflecting, we tend to point fingers. And what we don’t realize is that when we point one finger at someone else, there are three pointing back at us. This is why honest self-reflection is so important. We need to ask ourselves: Where do I need to grow? What do I need to heal? What needs to change within me? Because when you become better, you begin to do better, think better, and ultimately attract better.
What was the moment in your own life when you realized you could no longer live any other way?
For a long time, I was not living authentically. I was not sharing my Intuitive knowings, and I did not believe in my own voice because of many things that had happened in my childhood and young adulthood. In my early 40s, I felt that the pain of being inauthentic was growing louder, and I knew I needed to change the way I was living. So I began the journey of coming home to my true light and my true voice.

What do you believe actually blocks people from hearing their inner knowing?
I believe that most people are not disconnected from their intuition. Instead, they are overwhelmed by fear, conditioning, and stories. Once we slow down enough to notice how we truly feel and what we truly believe, the overwhelm begins to lessen, and we start hearing our intuition again.
What’s something most people misunderstand about healing?
Healing isn’t about becoming someone new; it’s about meeting the parts of yourself that learned to survive and gently allowing them to soften. This can be difficult because when old identities loosen, there’s a period of uncertainty before expansion. Healing isn’t about fixing; it’s about coming into wholeness with who you truly are.

What becomes possible in someone’s life when they stop outsourcing their truth and begin listening inward?
Peace. Balance. Trust. Discernment. Alignment. Relationships become cleaner. Decisions become simpler. Creativity returns. Dreams come online. Magic happens.

If someone spent just one week practicing the way you teach, what changes might surprise them?
They may come to see that life doesn’t fall apart when they stop striving constantly. They could start noticing guidance, synchronicities, and signs. They may feel more rested, more in touch with their emotions, and creatively inspired. Gradually, they may learn to tone down fear and amp up intuition.
